Art, Science and Technology: The environmental impact of waste on Marine Biodiversity
This project aims to raise public awareness about the damage caused by marine pollution, especially the irregular disposal of waste. Using art as a tool, the project seeks to illustrate the devastating impact of this problem on the fauna and flora of ocean ecosystems.
The students of the Visual Arts Project and the High Abilities or Gifted Technologies Project were encouraged to research irregular waste disposal on beaches, seas, and oceans, its contamination, its degradation time, the fauna and flora of the Espírito Santo coast, images that reference the damage produced by this impact caused by the waste, using the collected garbage itself that was used to compose the works of art, also inserting seized materials such as inadequate fishing nets. Involving curricular subjects such as Portuguese, Mathematics, Art, Geography, History, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology throughout the project, in addition to researching sustainability, separation of wet and dry waste, also highlighting inclusion where some of our students have double exceptionality (High Abilities or Giftedness associated with ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder or ID - Intellectual Disability). The creation of original works through artistic representation, developing paintings in acrylic paint on canvas, sculptures that will have robotic movements and the use of a wide range of materials including recyclable ones, fashion designs inspired by marine fauna and flora and the degradation of this environment, in addition to the development of educational digital games, culminating in artistic exhibitions at the end of this project (both in person and virtual) and the development of an e-book for presentation with free access to all students and other interested parties.
